Ivywild School is a cool, new gathering place in a historic neighborhood where you can sip a handcrafted beer, enjoy a meal or snack, buy locally grown food, take an art class or see a movie. But it is much more than that. It is a neighborhood redevelopment project that promotes economic and cultural vitality and a healthy environment – values that the developers think are essential to building our future.
Bristol Brewing Co.’s Mike Bristol, Joe Coleman, owner of the Blue Star restaurant, and architect Jim Fennell partnered to bring the project to life in the Ivywild School at 1604 S. Cascade Ave., which had served the neighborhood since 1916. The school’s closure in 2009 symbolized the decline of the historic neighborhood on Colorado Springs’ south side.
